The New Jersey School Boards Association is holding a forum for its membership on a comprehensive education reform proposal for Jersey City on Saturday, May 14, 1994, from 9:30 to 11:00 am at the Ramada Inn on Route 1 in Prinrttceton.

The forum will feature presentations by Jersey City's Mayor, Bret Schundler; President of the American Federation of Teachers, Albert Shanker; Congresswoman Marge Roukema; and New Jersey's Commissioner of Education, Leo Klagholz.

The panelists will debate the merits of passing legislation that will designate Jersey City as a test site for several innovative education pilot programs, which include: open enrollment, magnet schools, charter schools, and school vouchers for students attending non-government schools.

In 1989, the Jersey City Public School System was taken over by the State Department of Education because of poor student performance and endemic corruption.
