Polly Williams to speak at local rally for School Choice

Polly Williams will be the keynote speaker at an October 7th rally for school choice sponsored by Mayor Bret Schundler. Ms. Williams, an African-American legislator from Wisconsin, is nationally recognized as the author of the nation's first true piece of educational choice legislation, the Milwaukee Parental Choice Program. This program gives low income families the opportunity to send their children to private schools at state expense.

Ms. Williams has represented Wisconsin's 17th legislative district since 1980, where she is considered to be "the conscience of the State Legislature" on matters concerning school choice and quality education for minority children. She is the founder and Director of the Milwaukee Parental Assistance Center, which provides assistance to families and community organizations who are trying to obtain a quality education for their children.

Polly Williams is also a Director of the Rainbow Coalition and served as the State Chairperson for Jesse Jackson's presidential campaigns

Polly Williams is a persuasive advocate of school choice who has been a featured guest on "60 Minutes" and "ABC World News", and has been published in several national news magazines, including: Time, Newsweek, and U.S. News & World Report.

Following her remarks, Mayor Schundler will give a presentation about his school voucher plan, "The Tax Expenditure Neutral, Education Opportunity Act," which if enacted, would give vouchers to Jersey City parents who choose to send their children to private school.
